Wandern - Harz Berge - Brocken

Every weekend, we physically try to escape from Braunschweig. Don't take it personally, BS. It's just that by the weekend, we long to see and do something completely different... to just get outta the city. And that is how we found ourselves in the Harz Mountains a few weeks ago... embarking on a 4-hour round-trip hike up and down the mountain. Weeeeeeeeeee!

A popular destination for tourists and locals alike, the Harz Mountains are the tallest mountains in northern Germany. Not only are there an ample amount of hiking trails and bike trails one can ambitiously embark upon, the entire Harz area is a nature-lover's dream! Lush, breathtaking scenery...

We visited the Harz sometime in mid-April, and can you believe that there was still snow up there?! It was crazy how the temperature at Brocken (the top of the mountain) was much, much colder than the temperature at the base of our hike. Another kool thing: there's this steam locomotive train that people can ride to get from the base of the mountain up to Brocken. Here's a fun vid of us anxiously awaiting the train to chug past us, only a few kms from Brocken: http://youtu.be/W2o3ZRILDcA
